How to use the app

Frequently asked questions

Is my photo uploaded anywhere?

No. Everything happens entirely on your iPhone. The app makes no network connections and has no servers, accounts or analytics. Your photo only leaves the app if you explicitly tap Save or Share.

The app says "Face detection unavailable."

Face detection uses Apple's Neural Engine, which is only available on a real iPhone — not the iOS Simulator. On a physical device it works normally. If you see this on your phone, close and reopen the app, and make sure the photo clearly shows a single, front-facing face.

My photo was flagged as "Needs attention." Why?

The app checks the official requirements: head size (must fill 70–80% of the frame), space above the head, eye line, head tilt, a neutral expression with a closed mouth, no glasses, only one person, even lighting and a white background. The checklist tells you exactly which item to fix — adjust and try again.

Why are glasses flagged?

Current VFS Global / Passport Seva guidance does not allow spectacles in passport photos. Remove your glasses and retake the photo.

Which formats can I export?

Digital upload (630×810 px, ≤ 250 KB) for the Passport Seva website, plus 35×45 mm and 2×2 inch (51×51 mm) at print resolution.

The background didn't turn fully white.

Automatic background replacement works best when there's clear separation between you and the background. For the most reliable result, take the photo against a plain, evenly-lit white wall, then enable "White background."

Is this an official government app?

No. India Passport Photo is an independent aid to help you prepare a compliant photo. It is not affiliated with VFS Global or Passport Seva. Always confirm against the current official guidelines before submitting.
